Pigs are headed to their new homes, and you are wondering if they are performing as they should. This “Timely Topic” is a guide to let you know where your pig should be in terms of performance.
Swine projects require a combination of several factors. The first is feed intake. You must have feed intake for your project to grow and develop at a rate to make weight at the fair and at the same time develop skeleton, muscle, and fat deposition at the correct rate. We will give you some guidelines on what your pig should be doing at different weights and stages of development.

We fully realize that these figures do not add up in all scenarios, but this is optimum performance at these weight breaks. THIS IS TO BE USED AS A GUIDELINE, NOT A DRAWN IN THE SAND ABSOLUTE PERFORMANCE. There are many factors which will affect performance, including health status, temperature of the environment, and pigs per pen.
When you weigh your pigs, you should be somewhere close to these figures. Every pig is different.
